Coming up on the Morning Show…Tuesday, April 29th, 2008Sorry to put out the random blog only to plug a bunch of crap, but just wanted to throw out the following: Join us tomorrow as we welcome back Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter to the Radio Alice Studio tomorrow morning at 8:30. She’s singing (yes, singing) at the Rrazz Room in The Hotel Nikko all week long. Don’t know if this is a deal breaker or not, but I couldn’t convince Hooman or Hyphy Mike to rent that Wonder Woman outfit again… Monday May 5th - Cinco de Mayo Broadcast at Tres Agaves! Friday May 23nd - Discovery Kingdom Broadcast! That’s all for now… Listen Longer! Vote for Lara!Friday, April 18th, 2008If you were tuning into The Alice at all tonight, you might have heard Dayna and I do a break together talking about anything and everything, including the fact that our good friend Lara Johnston is competing on Mtv Show, “Rock the Cradle”. Lara is a Bay Area kid, not to mention a close relative to one of the greatest bands ever! =D Show her some support and love and vote to keep her on the show and in the competition… Go here. You can vote until tomorrow morning. Let’s keep the Bay Area Girl in this thing! Oh, and I’ve been meaning to post this picture for days… We’ve talked about it on the Morning Show, and I mentioned it during one of my breaks with Dayna… To me, it’s so classic Morning Show, and pretty much sums up our night… It was taken right before Matty’s big drunken intro to our movie.
Alright, that’s it for now… I’m a little loopy, but having fun playing radio with Dayna. Laters… -Boot The Best Time To Blog…Friday, April 18th, 2008I am realizing that the best time for me to Blog usually ends up being when I find myself still at the station at a very late, God awful hour. (Especially for someone like me who got here at 5:30am) It is strangely theraputic to whine and ramble about a bunch of nonsense on an equally strange platform. If you’re a fan of the Blogging, you’re in for a treat. Since the show has been a little action packed these days, I gave our Interns the assignment of writing about at least one event that they participated in over the last couple weeks. So this will be the first in a series of about about 6 or so entries… I’ll round it out and throw another blurb in myself after I put all the kid’s stuff up… I just realized, maybe I should have tried posting everything in reverse order so that this will be at the end of the Blog roll… kind of like April Fools. Eh, whatever. Alright, here we go… Enjoy… -Boot Hooman’s Movie “Passing Through”Monday, April 14th, 2008We mentioned Hooman’s movie, “Passing Through”, which debuted at last Friday’s 3 Minute Film Festival can be found online… If you’re having trouble finding it, link to it here. Enjoy…-Boot Waiting for Traffic to go away.Wednesday, April 9th, 2008Since it’s already 6:20pm and I’m still at the staion, I’m afraid to jump in my car right now because I’m guessing afternoon traffic is just a tad bit heavier today than it normally is. I just noticed that we’ve all gotten a little lazy on the blogging scene, and none of us have put a single post up this month. I will take the opportunity to throw a few thoughts out there while I wait for the traffic to go away. I know it’s a two day old story, but I still can’t get over trying to figure out who put the mayonaise on our studio window. Everyone thinks the Morning Show has completely lost their minds because we’ve all gone a little agro and are hyperfocused on finding out who did this. But many didn’t see (or smell) what we came to work to that morning. For those of you who didn’t listen on Tuesday morning, we came in that morning to find a disgusting goo splattered on the window of our call screener studio. (Which just so happens to be the room that I spend a lot of time in with Hooman) We deducted that it was a big glob of mayonaise (No Name smelled it), and Sarah insisted we not clean the mess up until we found out who did it, so they can clean it up themselves. Well, it got more and more disgusting as the day went on, so of course it became a big distraction and we spent a ton of time bitching about it on the air. Big surprise, no one will own up to it. Our overnight Board Op Mina said she never noticed it until we turned the light on in that studio at 5am. Marcus D our new afternoon guy said he was in that studio working until 11pm and it wasn’t there when he left. And Dayna our night jock said she didn’t notice anything when she got off air at midnight. I can’t quite figure out how to post pictures on here yet, but once I do, I will put it up and let you decide if we went nutso over nothing. Guess it doesn’t matter, it looks like it will forever remain a mystery. The reason I’m here later than usual today is because Hooman, Matty, The Interns, and myself walked down to the Embarcadero to cover the Torch Run China Protest. It got pretty crazy over there, but in a strange way a kind of neat thing to be a part of and witness. We indeed were bamboozled, and never got to see the torch. But we did stand proud with our “Go USA” and “Don’t Touch the Torch” banners. (Thanks Ben Perry!) Hooman and Hyphy were on the prowl with their mics and recorders, and I think I was able to capture some good pictures and video. I’m sure you will see those on radioalice.com in the coming days when we start recapping and playing the audio back. Alright, I think I’m done for now… plus my boss Mike is yelling at me for hanging around here as long as he does. I’ll check in again sooner than later. -Boot St. Patty’s Day Top 10.Monday, March 24th, 2008
I know I’m a week late, but here are my top 10 favorite moments from the craziness that was St. Patty’s Day (top moments I can remember, anyways) In no particular order… 1- Seeing No Name’s wife Christi Name at the broadcast…Christi is one of my favorite people that I never get to see enough of. Last time, she was feeding me muffins and Pedialyte after my 30th Birthday Bar Night in Rhonert Park. It was nice for both us to actually catch up a little a knock a few back together. 2 - Seeing the listeners that show up to these things, and the love the show gets… You all never seem to amaze me. Every year, at every event, the Morning Show Faithful show up in full force and we’re almost speechless at how much support the show gets. Personally, it always makes me realize how lucky I am to have this gig. 3 - Hyphy Mike at his first Broadcast… The boy just keeps making me proud. He’s such a talent and so witty, and I get joy watching him take this all in and have fun with it. (Like a younger Hooman, but without the annoying ego) The Interns have always been “my kids”, like my brothers and sisters. There’s always a special kinship there because I know what it’s like to experience playing in this candy store for the first time. So whenever I see them do well and make a name for themself, I just smile. 4- Introducing the Wonderbread 5 with Matty. How we both made it to 5pm at Front Street still standing, is beyond me. Don’t know what Pat (WB5 Guitar Superman) was thinking when he asked Matt and I to go on stage for them… St. Patty’s with the WB5 & The Royal Exchange has become a fun tradition the last few years, always a blast. 5 - Dat Phan’s amazement of our drinking… It’s funny, this is his second live broadcast with the show. He was at the Discovery Kingdom Broadcast last year, then the Irish Bank this year…Talk about two extremes. 6 - Stephanie the Irish Bank Hero/Trooper… Much love always to Stephanie, one of the owners of the Irish Bank. She stays sober all day long to make sure the Bank is the best place to be on St. Patty’s Day, and all year round for that matter. Talk about someone who’s witnessed a few good stories…If you’re ever at The Bank having a drink or two, don’t forget to tell Stephanie, Ronin, and the whole crew how much they rule. 7 - Trying to make our way to the Budha Bar (longest walk down Grant street ever). Walking down Grant Street with about 15 people, which included No Name, Sticker Dan, & a skateboard. Nuff said. 8- The march around the block of The Bank before going back inside to eat… If you saw a group of folks exit The Irish Bank Alley on Grant Street, then stand around for 10 minutes trying to think of a place to grab a bite to eat. Then they walked around the corner and right back into the Bank at the other end of the Bank’s alley on Bush Street, then sat down and ordered Corn Beef and Cabbage. That was us. 9- Aftermath of Waking up the next morning and seeing the drunk text convos I had on my phone. It’s just funny to see how drunk people interpret simple messages. 10 - Corn Beef & Cabbage dinner with friends at the end of the day. Best way to top off a great St. Patty’s Day. I met up with two of my favorite folks, Amy & Azzi, at the Wonderbread 5 Show. Afterwards, we went to Amy’s place and another one of my most favorite peeps, Ashley had made us all a great Corn Beef & Cabbage Dinner. Not to mention they took great care of me and gave me a place to land that night. Woudn’t have wanted to end it with another group of friends. And that pretty much summed up my St. Patty’s for 2008. If you missed any of it, you can find pictures, video, and a podcast of the whole live broadcast in the Sarah & No Name section of Radioalice.com. This seems like only the beginning. A ton is coming up in the next couple months… First up, the 3 Minute Film Fest on April 11th. Hope to see you there… -Boot |
